Community Owl Boxes

owl boxes

In an effort to attract nesting barn owls, the community of Serramar in La Mesa has installed owl boxes at two locations in the community. Has anyone noticed these?  After peeking around the ‘net for additional info, several sites that provide these boxes have promoted the idea as a natural, non-chemical approach to rodent/pest control, stating that a nesting pair of barn owls can consume as many as 2,000 rodents in a year. Sounds like a reasonable idea, but what I’m interested in seeing is the effect on outdoor cat populations that live in the community of 230 homes!

Does anyone have an experience with owl boxes or their effectiveness? Leave a comment..

Food Trucks come to La Mesa

Just last week I was passing by a parking lot in the 7900 block of University Ave when I noticed an A-frame sign just behind a car parked at the curb.

Food Trucks here 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.

I wanted to check it out, but didn’t have the time. That was last week…

Tonight I rolled down to the lot, hoping to get another shot a satisfying my need for some Gastro-truck goodness.

There were 4 or 5 trucks in a little chuck wagon configuration in the parking lot. After a quick peek at the choices, I settled on the Super Q BBQ rig. I tried the Pulled Pork sandwich, served with BBQ sauce and cole slaw on a soft Kaiser roll. Good stuff!

I’m not sure how long the chuck wagon will be in town, but if you want to try something different in La Mesa for a change, give its shot. I look forward to giving the Asian food a try next week.
